Timeline of critical events o 1850 – Compromise of 1850 o 1852 – Harriet Beecher Stowe publishes Uncle Tom’s Cabin o 1854 – Kansas-Nebraska Act o 1856 – Bleeding-Kansas o Professor Holt’s Thesis o Slavery not directly the cause of the civil war.
