POLICING IN 1600’S The city of Boston created the Night Watch program, this is where men would serve part-time and without pay. The night watch program spread to the other 12 colonies.

Policing in 1700’s 1712 - The City of Boston hired the first ever paid law enforcement officers. 1789 - The United States Congress creates the first Federal law enforcement officer. George Washington appointed the 13th U.S. Marshals in the United States.
