Finding ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the overall operation is the goal of every logistics manager. In some cases a strategic alliance may provide some or all of these. A strategicalliance is typically a long term agreement between two firms. Part of this agreement or alliance, is that the firms share the risks and rewards (Simchi-Levi, 2007). The alliance can provide benefits to both firms. In some cases it may add value to their products.For example, Allison Transmission, Duramax Diesel, and Chevrolet all work together to add value to their products. Chevrolet puts the Allison transmission I Duramax Diesel engine into their full ton diesel trucks.This increases the value of the final product (Kass-Shamoun, 2016).Other alliance benefits are: better access to markets, additional strength in technology or operations, and financial strength (Simchi-Levi, 2007).
