My first day working in SICU with my preceptor was a great learning experience. I originally came from the oncology floor; I had a wide range of experience, but not like the ICU. We received a patient from PACU at 11:30am. The had to go to emergency surgery for a perforated bowel, with possible dead bowel. He was in surgery for 4 hour and recovered for only 30 minutes. He came intubated with FiO2 of 100%, Levophed drip at the max of 3mcg/kg/min, Vasopressin at 0.04 units, 2 units of blood was rapidly infusing, Normal saline bolus, NG tube and 3rd vasopressor about to be added. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
