HW #2 due M, 9/19 (1) A nationwide vaccination program was started against swine flu. The first shots were given to the group most at risk- the elderly and infirm. During the first week of the program, 24,000 persons ages 65 and over were given shots, and eight of these persons died. As a result, three states suspended the vaccination program. What would a statistician say? (2) One of the leading causes of death in the United States is coronary artery disease, in which the main arteries to the heart break down. The conventional treatment for this disease involved drugs and special diets to reduce the patient’s blood pressure and eliminate fatty deposits in the arteries. Several studies, involving a few hundred patients, reported that only 68% of patients getting this treatment survived for three years or more. In 1972, Dr. Daniel Ullyot and his associates introduced a radical new treatment, in which the diseased arteries were replaced by veins transplanted from the patient’s own legs. About one hundred patients had been treated this way, and 98% survived three years or more. A newspaper article described this as “spectacular.”

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
