En noviembre de 2008 los supermercados Shaws vendieron la bolsa de 10 onzas de Green Mountain Fair Trade certified coffee por $8.49. La etiqueta no explicaba el significado de Fair Trade. La principal idea del Fair trade era que los agricultores estaban dando garantía. Que se convirtió atractivo pues respaldaba a los consumidores y apoyaba a los productores. En los 90’s y a finales del 2000 el precio del café estaba por debajo del costo de producción Organización responsable de la certificación fue Fairtrade Labeling Organization (FLO) Tenían cuota de mercado de menos del 3,8% del mercado del café y el 6,1% del mercado de cafés especiales, 1 y una tasa de crecimiento que ha sumido desde 97% en 2003 al 2% en 2007.
