A Rose For Emily A Rose for Emily is a highly used literary writing by William Faulkner. Over my many years of education, this is about the third time I have been afforded the opportunity to read this story and discuss the importance of the plot. The story is written in five parts as the author masterfully uses flashbacks to fill in the gaps and augment the story. My analysis of the story is that it takes place in the Old South, presumably Mississippi. The story is centered on a family that had once been prominent in a small town. The main character of the story is Emily Grierson who is surrounded by a lot secrecy and mystique. An interesting fact in the short story is that it is narrated by a mystery person and it is never revealed who that person is. The way story flows and how the information is revealed about the people of the town I think the narrator was someone of importance in the town.
