Psychological well-being can be defined in many ways. Generally, it is a term that can describe someone who is happy, satisfied and self-actualized. In Psychology 243, we will later discuss topics such as relationships, love, marriage, divorce, gender and alternatives to marriage. Among these topics, we can discuss how positive psychology relates to gay men and lesbian wo- men. The article I read analyzed positive psychology and well-being among Latino lesbians and gay men. The study surveyed 106 participants and theorized that adequate social support and col- lective self-esteem, are associated with lower levels of depression and high self-esteem. Only about a little over 16% of the participants reported being moderately depressed while only one participant reported being critically depressed. The study also analyzed whether positive group identification would counterbalance the dissenting impact of being gay as well as Latino.
