Course website : https://oc.okstate.edu/d2l Course Objectives This course is intended to help students: o To understand the basic concepts of marketing and apply them to real-life situations in the hospitality industry o To gain comprehension and skills in market segmentation and positioning, marketing research and planning, marketing mix development, and pricing o To develop a basic understanding of branding, marketing channeling, promotion and advertising, and public relations o To understand the complexities of marketing management and intradepartmental relationships o To enhance the integrative thinking ability, problem-solving skills, and the decision-making skills Course Description o This course presents fundamentals of marketing theory in the context of hospitality industry and covers the topics of marketing planning and strategy, segmentation and targeting, branding, distribution, pricing, and communications. 1. Textbook Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism, Kotler, P., Bowen, J.T., & Makens, J.C., 4th edition, 2006. Homework Assignments Use the textbook as your initial guide in working through homework assignments . You may work together for homework assignments and submit your work as a team. Homework will be collected at the beginning of the class when it is due . Solutions to homework assignments will be demonstrated and discussed in class. No assignments will be accepted after solutions are discussed. Case analysis homework should not exceed 2 pages, double-spaced, 10-12 font. Examinations Exams will consist of multiple choice questions and essay-type questions and will be conducted in on-line format (D2L) . No make-up exams will be given with the exception of an emergency. However, this emergency has to be approved before the exam
