Course Catalog Description: Quantitative and descriptive properties of the Solar System including the physics of the planets, their satellites, comets and interplanetary media. Possible origins of the Solar System. Not open to students who have completed ASTR 101. 3 lectures. Prerequisite: PHYS 132 or PHYS 123. Course Objectives: 1) To learn about the formation and evolution of the solar system through a comparative investigation of the interiors, surfaces, atmospheres, and magnetospheres of planetary bodies 2) To collect, analyze, and/or interpret observational and mission data as part of this investigation 3) To apply mathematical and scientific problem solving skills to problems in planetary science Course Philosophy: Active engagement with group activities occurs daily
