Community based health is important, because it gives everyone in the community and
opportunity to have a chance to achieve optimal health. There are times that people cannot afford
to visit a physician, or there is not a physician close in the area. When community based health is
achieved, then vulnerable populations are not as vulnerable in that moment.
In Omaha, Nebraska, it is important that the community receive the benefits of
community based healthcare activities like any other community. There are some activities that
help the community of Omaha stay healthy and happy.
The first activity is Walmart Wellness day. This is the event that Walmart’s around the
nation, including Omaha, will help provide free opportunities for free checkups. People who do
not have insurance, or do have insurance, can come, and get a free testing done for diabetes, free
blood pressure, and free vision screenings at some locations. For people who are at risk for
diabetes, the American Diabetes will follow up with them. Other activities offered include a
chance to get screened for immunization by a pharmacist. Also, people who have questions about
