Midterm: What is Science? Spring 2005. Please put your name and section leader on your answer. Return your answer as a written paper (no electronic submissions please) in class on Wednesday March 30. The Midterm is in two parts. You must answer both parts. Part I Carefully read the article “Bones of Contention” from the Guardian Newspaper of Thursday January 13, 2005 (available at Blackboard) and answer the following questions (base your answer on reading this article only and your knowledge of course concepts). Some questions require very short answers, (e.g. 3, 12) others (e.g. 15) require longer answers. In any case keep your longest answer to no more than a few sentences: 1. What is the “scientific sensation” referred to in the article? 2. What is the potential significance of the discovery referred to on the first page of the article? 3. What is the Latin name for the claimed new species of human?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
