Health, education, social and justice services are provided to young people who may be moved from their home because of abuse, neglect, delinquency, or special needs. Community includes such factors as the socioeconomic characteristics of one’s neighborhood, the types of resources available, the service systems within the community (including schools), religious organizations, the media, and the people who live in the community. 6 Why it is important? Why it is important? • From an ecological perspective, the characteristics of the community in which an adolescent lives can have a profound impact of the adolescent’s development. • Some communities are rich in resources that provide support and opportunity for adolescents; some are not. • The links between low SES and adolescent delinquent and problem behavior may be due, in part, to the lack of
