Scott Hartrick May 30, 2006 “Satchmo” Movie Review The movie “Satchmo” is a very detailed and in-depth look on the life of Louis Armstrong. It takes you on a journey through his entire life from when he first learned how to play music up until the day he dies. Throughout the movie there are interviews with a number of different people that either knew Louis Armstrong personally or were greatly influenced by him. They told stories and reminisced about the days when he was in the spotlight. The movie was filled with numerous video recordings of many of his performances done all around the world. It talks about he changed the face of not only jazz music, but how he created a foundation for all new types of music to come. Louis Armstrong was a new kind of artist. His style was not what everyone was used to. He alone was responsible for turning jazz into and individual improvisation with his inspiring and crude techniques.
