Running Head: CASE ANALYSIS1Courts, Prosecution, and the Defense case analysisCrj1008-20-17
CASE ANALYSIS2A South Caroline police officer was charged with a serious crime of shooting an unarmed black man. The defendant entered a plea of guilty in federal court in Charleston, South Carolina (Blinder, 2016). The case was determined and decision reached at two years after incident. According to the evidence that was tabled before the judges in charge of the case, the defendant shot the victim after he ran away after being forced to pull over for broken car brake lights. The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges to the federal charges of violation of Scott’s civil rights. However, due to lack of sufficient and convincing evidence, the judge would drop two federal charges against the defendant. This is in accordance to the plea agreement that the defendant entered with the court. The move would thus allow the defendant, Slager, who at one time was a North Charleston officer at time of shooting, to avoid jury trials.
