MIS 245-101 Intro. to MIS Prof. Jose C. Casal NJIT Fall 2008 Name: Carrie Ann Deis Case: 6-1 Date: 10/6/2008 Email phishing scams have affected millions of people all over the globe. The world has always been dealing with con artists, but now new technologies make it easier than ever before to target massive groups of people in a short amount of time. All one has to do is make a mock website for any company that can save personal information and then send the link of that website to any large group of people. By chance, at least a few of the people will have an account with the chosen company and fall susceptible to the scam. Any company that uses online accounts can be used for email phishing scams. Banks are the most common for the simple reason that a scammer can make a large sum of amount off of one victim. However, companies such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble are not safe. With Amazon account information, a con artist can purchase a variety of merchandise. Books from Barnes & Noble can be resold for a one hundred percent profit
