its usage to avoid complications. Moreover, we will also discuss what could be their future developments and their societal and ethical issues. HISTORY OF CONTACT LENSES Even though contact lenses are officially invented in 1887, their concept was conceived 200 years earlier. In 1508, Italian inventor Leonardo Da Vinci created a glass lens with a funnel on one side so that water could be poured into based on his belief that we could alter vision by submerging our heads in a bowl of water. 100 years later, in 1636, contact lenses got their name thanks to an invention by French scientist Rene Descartes. He put a glass tube in direct contact with the cornea to alter the vision. Yet, these two never finished making real contact lenses because they could not blink while wearing their devices. Acknowledging this problem, Sir John Herschel came up with an idea for the design of lenses: a mold of the cornea in 1827. Once again, contact lenses are prevented from being possible; this time because of lack of proper technology. After this point, the timeline of contact lenses gets a little controversial. Some people say the first successful contact lenses were introduced by F.A Muller in 1887. He created contact lenses made of glass that could fit the entire eye. Others report that in 1888, Swiss physician Adolf E. Fick and French optician
