Runaway Jury Runaway Jury I will be studying the movie Runaway Jury starring John Cusack, Gene Hackman, and Dustin Hoffman based on the novel by John Grisham. The movie is about a day trader who gets shot and killed at his workplace. His wife sues a major gun manufacturer holding them responsible for his death. As of the time the movie takes place, no one has successfully sued a gun manufacturer for payment and damages. His wife hires an idealistic lawyer to oversee the case. On the defense team is a ruthless jury consultant riding on frequent successes, who will do anything to get the victory. In the middle of everything is the jury, which each party is both trying to sway. (Brown, S., & Fleder, G.) The question I would like to ask here is “Should a company who produces products be responsible for what happens to the end user?” I will look at the trial in the movie, and compare it to how similar situations were played out in the US Court system.
