Reino 1 Marissa Reino Professor Moore GESS 20 April 2007 Class Dismissed Television is a way to escape reality and indulge in a world where anything goes. Television shows range from drama, to science fiction, to reality all of which are designed for a certain effect on the audience. Drama or comedy shows are designed in a specific way in which they know will become successful. The formula for a successful television show back in the 1970’s and early ‘80’s was for the male figure to either be more successful than the women of the house, or for the man of the house to be slightly less intelligent then the average male. Archie Bunker was a simple man who wanted the best for his family, and when he saw his little girl get engaged to a man whom he thought was not up to his standards he turned rude and this is why the show became so successful. People love to watch television shows in which one character has so much energy especially when that energy is negative. From reality to television the rules change. In reality everyone is perceived as equal, and men and women are on the same playing fields. In television men are usually shown as superior to women, and in most cases more intelligent. Sometimes these aspects of television leak themselves into reality and shape the way society thinks....
