Amy Freeberg ASL2 Parker Deaf Event: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Every Friday, Coffee Bean puts on a Deaf event in Mission Valley. This is my second deaf event and I keep learning more with each one I attend. Now that I know about these deaf events around the San Diego area it makes me want to attend more, if its mandatory or not. I get to expand on my ASL skills and meet different people. I have been in many coffee bean’s before and in fact I prefer it over startbucks but since I went with another student in sign language class it wasn’t as nerve racking the second time and I felt more comfortable that she was there signing with me in the coffee shop. We sat there and tried not to use our voices the whole time and just sign while we drank our coffee and had conversation, we talked to a few people that came up to us but other than that it was an enjoyable evening at the coffee shop. I knew how to say coffee but I spelt out the word cream and espresso. Deaf events are important to expand your skills in ASL
