Nursing Informatics Competencies
Many nurses have become intimidated by the thought of having to learn and utilize
informatics in their clinical setting, due in part to technology changing so rapidly (Laureate,
2012). However, it has become vital for nurses to recognize the importance of nursing
informatics, and with just a few basic skills and competencies, they can integrate technology and
truly enhance the outcome of their patients (McGonigle, 2014 & Laureate, 2012)

Patient safety and the delivery of quality patient care is supported by the use of
informatics and clinical understanding with regard to decision making, utilizing a vast amount of
data to aid in the enhancement of patient outcomes (Laureate, 2012). The vision of the
Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform (TIGER) is to enable nurses to utilize
