Mendeleev in 1870, organized 65 elements know into a periodic table and summarized behavior in the periodic law: when arranged by atomic mass, the elements exhibit a periodic recurrence of similar properties. 2. DIFFERENCE: Mendeleev arranged based on atomic mass, today’s table is arranged based on atomic number. a. Due to H. Moseley, found direct dependence between nuclear charge and position on table. 8.2 Characteristics of Many-Electron Atoms 292 1. both Bohr and Schrodinger equations does NOT give exact solutions for many- electron atoms 2. Schrödinger equation gives a very good approximate solution. 3. the solutions show that the many-electron atoms are Hydrogen like, so same quantum numbers can be used to describe those orbitals. 4.
