Please refer to the “General Study Sheet” Post for information regarding the exams THE MAJOR CLASSES OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS CHAPTER 4 INTRODUCTION We have been introduced to a wide array of chemical reactions and reaction types. You should be familiar with each type and be able to identify which class of reaction is occurring as well as being able to write and balance each of the three types. Additionally, we have seen that substances can fall into 3 different classes of electrolytes; weak, strong, and non-electrolytes. These concepts together and others as well allow us to predict reaction products and determine the reagents necessary to form a desired product. I recommend oxidation number method for balancing redox. Finally, titration as a method of determining concentration has been introduced. You should be able to identify reactions as one of the three classes of reactions we have discussed: precipitation, acid- base, or redox. GOALS
