Sociology- 11-4-08 Economy - social institution that ensures maintenance of society thru production, distribution, and consumption of goods/ services -Goods- tangible objects that are necessary or desired. -Services- intangible activities ppl are willing to pay for. Labor - group of ppl who conribute phys/ intellectual services to production process. Capital – wealth owned or used in business by person or corp. Preindustrial econ primary sector production - taking raw materials/ resources from earth Hunt/Gather - small production units, goods produced by fam. Divide labor by age/gender Horticult/Pastora l- potential to make surplus goods thru animal domest and farming -econ distinct form fam life. Distrib becomes complex, ppl can participate in other activities than food production. Agrarian - production related to making food. Specialized tasks: warriors to protect surplus. Surplus allows for trade/ barter. Industrial econ- secondary sector production
