2Beneath the SurfaceFilms are probably the most popular way an artist tells their story in modern times.Anartist has a reason for every scene they make and every light they have turned off.The analysisof their work takes practice, time, and patience according to Bill Goodykoontz and ChristopherP. Jacobs (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2011).For example, inX-Men: First Class, there is a specificreason why Matthew Vaughn (the director) and Ashley Miller (the writer) created the scenes andlayout of the movie in the order and genre that they did; and each of them wanted to send acertain message.X-Men: First Classis a well-planned and directed movie from a highlynotarized director. The details and planning put forth in the film reflect credit upon thoseinvolved in the production process. The X-Men story is no stranger to a comic book reader/enthusiast.But to the averageperson that perhaps does not enjoy reading them, it could be a bit new to them if they are tryingto be told the story. That being said it is important to have a good storytelling stricter when thesestories are being applied to film.X-Men: First Classis the told story of where the X-Menbecame who they are from when they were first discovered as mutants. The story is told in a chronological and non-linear order to likely explain to the audiencecertain circumstances that were present before and during current time that impacted the actionsof the characters in the story. This story takes place in many different parts of the world fromwhere each of the discovered characters originated from. The diversity of the storytellingtechniques that the author and director used in this movie make it a great movie to analyze.Themovie was not only told in a non-chronological order, but also a chronological one for the mostpart to give history of the characters in the movie
3Beneath the SurfaceActing is the writer’s words thrown into action by people.Acting is what makes wordsfrom a book believable on the screen and makes those words literally come to life before youreyes.Every movement an actor makes plays an important part in the overall film. Most of the actors inX-Men: First Classis Interpreters and Commentators. In that, thecharacters they play are fictional characters therefore the actors can only go off what they knowand have read about the characters that they are portraying. The way the actors portray thecharacters are a different story. For example, toward the end of the movie when James McAvoy(Charles Xavier) showed an emotional scream from what another character in the movie done
