A. MARKETING AND PRODUCT OBJECTIVES 1. SWOT ANALYSIS IMPLICATIONS 1.1: The founder of Sheer Balance, Brett Blumenthal, has extensive knowledge in the fitness and wellness industry. Her commitment to the business and her mission of providing customers with the information they need to live a balanced and healthy life are the main strengths of Sheer Balance. In addition, customer’s access to an interactive blog, including information from Brett and specialized experts in all areas of health are strengths that Sheer Balance possesses. The information provided on Sheer Balance is all based on factual evidence, which is something competitors struggle with. Due to Brett’s writing talents and the relevancy of her information, “Shine” on Yahoo! Has chosen many of her articles to be featured on their popular blog. This has provided interest in the company web traffic. Signing up for the newsletter and accessing the website are both very easy and provide strengths for the company. 1.2: Obesity rates in the U.S. and around the world are increasing at quite a fast rate. Because of this, Sheer Balance has an opportunity to expand their already large market. Since the company promotes health and balance in ones’ life, as obesity grows, the interest in the company will grow; with good promotion. Sheer Balance will find a way to penetrate markets around the globe so that those who are in danger of becoming obese, or those who may already be obese, have options of how to improve their lifestyles. Many times victims of obesity feel that there is no hope, but Sheer Balance is a way to slowly get feedback on the choices that can make consumers life healthier, and with this marketing plan, an endless amount of customers will be reached with this message. There are many “fad” diets, especially on the internet. Many customers who are looking for a healthy lifestyle and a way to improve balance in their life have been frustrated by these phony websites and advice columns, etc. Sheer Balance can provide them with a different type of advice, 2

because all the articles on the website are based on proven facts. Brett’s blog is also a legitimate source of information where customers can go to get advice on how to balance their life. Sheer Balance will continue to produce relevant and factual information, providing an opportunity to retain customers through the trust people will have in their information. Our main opportunity to be exploited by Sheer Balance is based on these fad diets. By emphasizing in the marketing plan that Sheer Balance is not in this category, customers will be intrigued to visit the site. Once they realize that, in fact, all of the information on the website about healthy living is legitimate, customer loyalty will begin to be built. As Brett mentioned in class, her target market was initially middle age women.
