LIFC 302 C OUPLE C OMMUNICATION Introduction: Communication is about verbal and non-verbal “talking.” How and why we say or don’t say things is the glue that connects or isolates every couple. A marriage without communication loses life and you will certainly encounter couples with communication problems in the mentoring setting. A spouse is a gift that might contain a few surprises, but good communication can help you overcome the tough obstacles that every couple faces. Good communication does not come naturally without work, but strategies to improve it can be learned. Definitions: 1. Listening – James 1:19 says, “… be a ready listener….” When another person is talking to you, you are not thinking about what you are going to say when they finish. You are able to accept without judgment what is said or how it is stated. You are able to restate accurately both the content and feeling of a message. Concepts: 1. The Bible is the best book about communication that you can ever read. There is tremendous power in our words: James 3:8-10, Proverbs 18:21, Proverbs 25:11. 12

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
