PART A - Short Essay Questions (40 Points) Choose two of the following and answer them in a short essay on this page. One to two paragraphs each please (I will stop reading after the second paragraph). Read the prompt directions carefully: (20 points each). 1) List the components of an effective job description. Shortly explain the importance of each part. An effective job description has seven components. As an illustration, a job description consists of: job title, department of division, date the job that was analyzed, job summary, supervision, work performed and job context. All seven components are significant because this allows employees to understand the responsibilities and duties that are required and expected of them. For starters, a job title defines the position in a few words. This is significant because an employee needs to understand what kind of job title they are trying to apply for. Secondly, the department of division lays out the location of the job. This is highly essential because employees need to understand where they will be commuting for work. Third, the date the job that was analyzed is vital for future employees in learning if the job description was updated. This ensures future employees with up to date information about the job. Next, the importance of a job summary presents how much an employee would be compensated. This is important because employees would like to know how much they would be making so they can compare the compensation with a variety different organizations. Moreover, supervision is important in a job description because it provides detailed duties that are associated with the job. Lastly, work performed and job context consists of tasks and what kind of environmental conditions employees will be working in. This is important for future employees because it provides informative information for what employees should expect for. All in all, job descriptions as a whole are important because it lays out the qualifications. 4) What is succession planning? Please give an example. According to the text, Managing Human Resources succession planning is to ensure that the organization is prepared to fill key positions when the incumbents leave for any reason. This is important for HR because succession planning can avoid uncertainties in an organization. There are two examples that can illustrate how succession planning works. These examples include the examination of a talent pool and a replacement chart. To begin, a talent pool is composed of top performers that have potential in moving up the career ladder. By
