Metabolism: all chemical reactions necessary to sustain life. Carbohydrates: 60-70%, sugars and starches, used as short term energy molecules (15 minutes). Complex carbs (bread and pasta) take about an hour to hour ½ to be converted to energy. Lipids:20-30%, include fats/oils/waxes, used as a long term source of energy, used for cushioning to protect certain parts of the body, also act as an insulator and vitamin carrier. Unsaturated(oils)=good saturated(lard)=bad, bad oils are palm and coconut which are high in cholesterol and saturated fats, choose only foods that have less than 30% of
