Exercise 9 Analysis 1. Gel Half #1 had more protein remaining because it was immediately stained after  electrophoresis. Gel Half #2 had less protein remaining because many of its proteins  had been transferred to the nitrocellulose membrane during the electroblot. Gel Half #1’s  lanes had more bands (which were also darker). I think the electrotransfer of our Gel  Half #2 was successful. Some protein remained but we didn’t have much time to transfer  and we still had a pretty clear image. 2. Of all the proteins in the crude extract, most of them are detected by the Coomassie  Blue stain. The proteins detected by the antibody/secondary antibody detection system  are albumin proteins.  3. No, the distance traveled by the bands is representative on more than just the identity of  the protein. The distance relies on electrical charge, the size of molecules, and the  shapes of the molecules. Therefore, proteins could migrate to the same location on the
