Couldn’t lead if people hadn’t chosen to follow him o Role as leader Interactions with the public Provided a reason for them to follow his actions Cause of Europe’s calamity/Germany’s calamity But blaming singularly him takes away from the full  cause 1962 – Biography of Hitler from Alan Boloch (?) o Thought Hitler was an opportunist without principle Only idea Hitler had was to further extend his power Dressed up his desire for power in his doctrine of race Needed to make up these ideas so he could gain  power and disguise it under a reason 70’s – Hitler was fanatically driving a preplanned, preordained program that  would lead to the extermination of the Jews.  o Has this idea as early as 1918 Ideas never changed throughout the whole time Including the extermination o Wrote about it in Mein Kampf o Waited throughout his elections and until he came into power to put  into action his plan that he had had for so long Hitler was a political conman who bewitched his audiences o Bewitched his people and led them astray o With this definition, the German people aren’t responsible o Makes Hitler the only one responsible and doesn’t look at the  interaction of leader/follower Demonization of Hitler o Demonic o Embodiment of total evil o He is within the realm of metaphysics, and we can’t explain him

Danger is that we can’t understand him because he’s not  actually real Hitler the Madman o Had to be crazy to act/think/lead this way o We cannot possibly understand what led him to do this Must be crazy 1931 – Jewish blood story o
