US didn’t know about whether the claims were accurate when they were  considering taking in Jews into the country o Enormous resistance to proposals War refugee board (1944) o Only agency associated with rescuing Jews o Took place as the US knew the Allies were winning o Took place as a result of a scandal Only when it became clear to the US Treasury department  that many of the quests for involvement and payment in  earlier rescue plans had been suppressed o Political decision o Saved around 200,000 Jews Rising lack of interest in taking care of other people. In the 1930’s the  Americans were not interested in opening their doors to Jewish germans.  Native Anti-Semitism in US as well. Some were annoyed with Jews, others  were apathetic. Polish Government in Exile (PIE) o Szmuel Zygelboim Committed suicide in response to the lack of response from
