PHYSICS 211-LLABORATORY REPORTFree-Fall Acceleration near the Earth’s SurfaceLaboratory No. 3Written By: Makiah StukelLab Section: 05Lab Partner: Zach BlumDate Performed: 2/15/17Instructor: Avijit Das
ABSTRACTThe objective of this experiment was to measure the free-fall acceleration of an object near thesurface of earth while showing that the free fall acceleration is constant. This experiment wascompleted in two parts. In the first part, a Behr free fall apparatus is constructed to record theposition of a free-falling object on a paper tape. The Behr free fall apparatus is designed toproduce 60 sparks per second; therefore, the time interval between sparks is 1/60thsecond. Dotswere labeled with even numbers and the distances between dot 0 and dot 2;0 and 4;0 and 6, andso on were taken. The overall distance traveled was determined by subtracting the accumulateddistances. A hand plot was also made of the calculated instantaneous velocity of the object vs
