Section 1: Paper specific questions 1. This species of frog lives in northeastern Costa Rica 2. The bright colors could indicate that the frogs are poisonous. 3. These frogs have a chemical defense that is poisonous to many predators. 4. Cryptic coloration is what organisms use to blend into their surroundings to help stay hidden, also known as camouflage. 5. Birds are the main predator of these frogs but other predators include mammals and ants. 6. In addition to aposematic signals (signals that warn predators), another factor that could result in color variation is sexual selection. Section 2: General science questions 1. Research is important because it builds our knowledge so that we can solve more issues, discover more about the world, and prove or disprove data. 2. The hypothesis was that the bright coloration of frogs are aposematic signals. 3. The experimenters made both brown frog models and blue/red models to create comparable results. They placed a large quantity spread over different areas to limit any confounding
