The following states are needed to make the state machine work as speciFed. State Description EW1 Green light for east-west tra±c. Light has been green for 0-30 seconds. EW2 Green light for east-west tra±c. Light has been green for 30-60 seconds. NS Green light for north-south tra±c. OK to go to state LT if needed. LT Green light for left turn tra±c. OK to go to state NS if needed. NSX Green light for north-south tra±c. Must go to state EW1 next. LTX Green light for left turn tra±c. Must go to state EW1 next. The reason for states NSX and LTX are to make sure the tra±c on the highway gets to go after either the north-south or left turn tra±c has gone. Without these states the system could loop back and forth between the NS and LT states if those inputs are active. { N,L
