Amelia Murphy WTE Laura Wienert Assignment #2 Scene 1/29/08 Brent Staples -attention grabbing beginning- ‘my first victim’ -interesting verb choice – ‘echo of the footfalls’ -use of onomatopoeias- thump thump thump thump -he becomes vulnerable to the reader by sharing personal information such as the death of his brother and the stares of the women on the street in order for the reader to understand exactly where he is coming from Samuel Hubbard Scudder -is the only author in these three to use dialog as a way to portray meaning of a scene -does not describe the physical attributes of any part of the story but is able to still paint a picture of the scene Bernard Cooper -describes everything and then slowly reveals it to you- when he describes seeing the transvestites walking down the street he talks about them as women first -amazing verb and adjective relationships Ex- frantic as atoms Nursing cups of coffee
