Child & Adolescent Development 2/7/08 Adolescent & young adult stages Identity One’ sense of self The adolescent’s task is to solidify a sense of self by testing and integrating various roles Intimacy The ability to form close, loving relationships A primary developmental task in late adolescence and early adulthood Development - Age related changes from conception to death Prenatal Development ** LIFE IS SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED Conception - sperm cells: 2-3 hundred million deposited -meet with the ovum (fertilization) Germinal Stage -1 st 2 weeks after conception - Zygote - the fertilized egg Enters a 2 week period of rapid cell division Develops into an EMBRYO 1 st month By the end of the 1 st month, the embryo is 1/10 of an inch long , the heart, which is no larger than a poppy seed , has begun beating. Embryonic Stage Embryo - the developing human organism from 2 weeks thru 2 nd month Heart & blood vessels form Head area develops rapidly Eyes begin to form detail Internal organs grow 2 nd month
