Lesson 14 – Weight Management Statistics – By 2030, it is estimated the entire population will be overweight or obese. In 2005, 33% of adolescents and 14% adults cannot meet cardiorespiratory standards. 54% Americans are not regularly active and 15% are sedentary Fats Essentia l – fat found around organs, nerves, brain, heart, and mammary glands. For men it should be 3-5% and for women it should be 8-12% Non-essential - fat, also known as adipose tissue, located on the rest of the body under the skin. Risks of Excess Body Fat - Doubles mortality rate Declines life expectancy by 5 years 50-100% increased risk of death Obese people suffer from hypertension, cancer, breathing disorders, arthritis, and diabetes. Diabetes is the 6 th cause of cancer. Problems of Low fat levels : Women with less than 8-12% body fat risk reproductive, circulatory, and immune system disorders. Men with less than 3-5% body fat risk reproductive, circulatory, and immune system disorders.
