SOME QUESTIONS TO STUDY IN PREPARATION FOR THE FINAL EXAM  (Spring 2008) 1. SOME QUESTIONS CONCERNING 2 CORINTHIANS AND THE “LOST LETTERS” OF PAUL  a. How many letters do we think Paul may have written to the Corinthians? We believe paul wrote 4 letters of which we have 2 b. What was the chain of events that led to Paul writing however many letters there may have been? Paul had heard that of bad discipline of the church people, letter 1 False apostles had denied paul of his apostleship and made fun of him letter 2, c. What was the overall purpose of the letter we know as 2 Corinthians? in part, a letter of reconciliation, an attempt to re-establish good relations with the congregation at  Corinth after a terrible disruption in personal relations between Paul and the people there.    d. What did Paul consider his ministry to be?  What did he consider that of his opponents to be? e. Paul, as an apostle, had authority.  As he talks about the authority God gave to him, he used the language  that one of the Hebrew prophets used of himself. 1) What did he have authority to do?  2) Who was that prophet that Paul alluded to?    2. a. What label is given to these three letters? (for example, the letters Philemon, Ephesians, Philippians and  Colossians are labeled the “Prison letters.”) Pastoral Letters b. What are the issues that concern the authorship of these letters? Vocabulary-1/3 of the words paul never used in any previous letters, 2/3 of the words are words used in  books past pauls time of death. Officials-who were not in previous letters
