JABATAN TEKNOLOGI MAKLUMAT & KOMUNIKASI LAB 1 LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the lab, students should able to: 1. Able to understand and elaborate the activities in software life cycle and software development process 2.Describe the benefits of design rationale 3. Suggest ways of improving interface of given study case. 4. Analyze and identify potential interface problem 5.Describe the use of Schneiderman’s Golden Rules in designing interface. 6. Able to elaborate and design a recommendation to improve existing interface. LAB ACTIVITY: ACTIVITY 1 Activity Outcome : Learn the main thing to be considered when designing an interface. Design rationale means "information that explains why an artifact is structured the way that it is and has the behavior that it has" [Conklin, Burgess-Yakemovic, 1995]. Procedure : Each student must comment the design of web page below:

Figure 1.1 When designing an interface, the usability features needs to be given importance. By using the design rational concept, it’s will help you to ensure that the interface continues to attract high hits as well as maintaining it constantly. The elements that you need to give importance are such as: Color Text Graphics Consistency Navigation ACTIVITY 2 Activity Outcome : Identify the problem of the interface. Based on the Schneider man’s Eight Golden Rules of Interface Design : 1. Strive for consistency. 2. Enable frequent users to use shortcuts. 3. Offer informative feedback. 4. Design dialogs to yield closure. 5. Offer error prevention and simple error handling. 6. Permit easy reversal of actions. 7. Support internal locus of control. 8. Reduce short-term memory load. Web design is similar (in a very simplistic way) to traditional print publishing. Every website is an information display container, and every web page is like the page in a book. However, web design uses a framework based on digital code and display technology to construct and maintain an environment to distribute information in multiple formats. Taken to its fullest potential, web design is undoubtedly the most sophisticated and increasingly complex method to support communication in today’s world.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
