(i)Interesting aspect of the novel is that there is a split in gender identity contrasting in machismo and men in contrast, seem to face more difficulties as a result of the conflicting demands embedded in the Dominican concept of machismo (Sorensen 109).Section I.2Dominican Machismo(i)Tells the story of Orlando Suarez having a harmonious family but went off with another woman and has a child with her and his macho behavior, his sexual capacity, was negatively perceived (Sorensen 111). (ii)Orlando acted machista by taking another woman but had failed other obligations of macho behavior by not providing for his family. This suggests an ambiguity in the way the macho concept is used (Sorensen 112).
