Running head: Comparing and Contrasting 1 Comparing and Contrasting of the Second Amendment The right to keep and bear arms is the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution that makes up part of the Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment was formally signed December 15, 1791. A lot of controversy has arisen in the United States about the Second Amendment because of a lot of unlawful killings such as Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis, who were killed by gun toting “Law Abiding Citizens”. I stick by the Second Amendment for the reason that in today’s world there are a lot of reckless, careless, ruthless people, who takes the easy way to make money by breaking in homes or cars, robbing people or businesses, or shooting people just because. A bullet does not have a name on it. "The Second Amendment in this country is part of our Constitution and the president of the United States is bound by our Constitution, so I believe in the Second Amendment. It does provide for Americans the right to bear arms for their protection, for their safety, for hunting, for a wide range of uses.” Quoted President Obama on CNN. I agree with his review on the Second Amendment because nowadays you need protection for your home, family, and self. A lot of people work hard for what they have to be taken by a gun or knife toting criminal. Look at the crime rate of Newport News. Reported by ABC 13 News robberies in Newport News has increased over the past year. According to advocates of gun control believe that stronger laws can prevent the needless loss of life. I disagree for the simple fact that criminals can get weapons illegally. If a licensed carrier is defending their self against a criminal and kill them, it is justifiable. In the Sandy Hook incident, the perpetrator acquired the legal weapons after killing his mother and did the
