BIO 22 LAB 4 th Long Quiz SS 2014-2015 Answer the following problems. Show your solution wherever necessary. 1. A litter of 6 dire wolf puppies were found huddled by their mother’s corpse near the river. The mother had grey coat, while the puppies had the following colors: 3 brown, 2 grey, 1 white. Suppose that there is only one gene controlling the expression of coat color in dire wolves and that the mother was heterozygous for this gene. Solution : The gene can be represented with any letter. The number of puppies that exhibit a certain trait may not correspond exactly with the values obtained through the Punnet Square method or any other method since these are just probabilities. If the father was homozygous recessive for the trait, then there would have been no chance for them to produce a brown-coated puppy since brown coating is exhibited by the homozygous dominant genotype. It cannot also be homozygous dominant for the trait since they will not be able to produce a white- coated puppy . Hh Father HH Father hh Father H h H h H h H HH Hh H HH Hh h Hh hh h Hh hh H HH Hh h Hh hh A. What could be the father’s genotype? Explain. (3pts) The father is heterozygous for the trait.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
