PHGY 209 – Immunology Lecture IV October 18, 2008 TH TH2 for humoral response. TH1 for cellular response. TH2 prouces IL 4, 5, 6. This is how we know it is a TH2 helper. In order for optimal antibody response, all three cells (dendritic , B cell and TH2 ) be all be connected through receptors to each other. B cell sees the whole bacteria while the T cell only see an epitope and yet they cooperate to produce a monoclono antibody. Immunoglobulin The structures of the immunoglobulin cannot determined from the alpha, beta and gamma peaks unless in a condition called multiple myeloma, where the plasma cells come back to the bone marrow (plasmablast plasma cells). The plasma cell is the ideal protein producing cell . This is a monomeric immunoglobulin structure. There are five classes of immunoglobulins. The class is defined by the heavy chains. The heavy chain are identical for all antibodies within a class. The light chain is identical for all antibodies within a family. It has 4 peptide chains- divalent – two active areas that can bind to the antigen molecule. The largest part of the antibody molecule is constant. It is called FC because it is crystallisable.
