Does “urban primacy” exist?: No, because the next two largest cities in Morocco are Fez (2.4
million in 2014) and Tangier (1.7 million in 2014)⁴. They have a much smaller population
compared to Casablanca, but they are not three times less than it.
Which “urban revolution” contributed to its growth and economy?: The First Urban
Revolution had the most influence to Morocco’s growth. Both the Phoenicians and Romans used
it as a port town for trade but fertile land around the city helped to develop an agricultural base.
Although many Jews fled to Morocco, several Arab tribes settled in the city also to help boost
the population and economy. Additionally, its status as a port town provided a safe haven for
pirates and privateers. 【 URBAN FORM 】― Image provided by Joseph L. Murphy Photography ⁵ Image provided by Google Maps ⁶ Which model of urban form is most applicable to layout of city?: Hoyt Sector Model Sources
