Hermeneutics Research Assignment 7 (Haggai 2:1-9) The five commentaries I am using are the Mathew Henry concise commentary on the Whole bible, Barns Notes on the Minor Prophets, The Life Application Study Bible, The Cambridge Bible and Alexander McLaren’s Expositions of Holy Scriptures. From what I can tell all five of these commentators used a literal Hermeneutic although a couple of them did go beyond explaining the passage and dove deep into application of the text and Barns even went beyond that and tied in attributes of God that were explained in other parts of the bible. He used this to explode the understanding and the vastness of what Haggai was talking about. I did not seem to get into the realm of digging too deep just using many, many, many examples to back up his theology. The first commonality I see between the Cambridge, Life Application, and Barnes was they all mentioned that this passage was given on the last day of the feast of tabernacles. I feel
