08/30/2017 L01: Introduction to Basic Concepts Data Types Primitive Data Types o Most basic data types in java o int: 1, 2, 3, 4 integer number o char: “a”, “b”, “c”, “d” a single character o boolean: true, false true or false o etc. Composite Data Types o Data types made of primitive or non-primitive data types o array: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] array of size 5 stores a sequence of elements in a specific order Abstract Data Types mathematical specifications for data types Defined by: o possible values o possible operations on them o behavior of operations Data Structures collection of data organized such that data storage and retrieval is easier and done through a fixed technique Example/implementation of abstract data types Array o one example- it is a collection of elements o retrieval of elements is done by specifying what the index of the data you want is Course goals: o Implement, Use, Best Use Cases Phases of Software Development
