Cocaine is an alkaloid ester extracted from the leaves of plants including coca. It is a local anesthetic and vasoconstrictor and is clinically used for that purpose, particularly in the eye, ear, nose, and throat. 2 . The drug is also referred to as coke and it is a strong stimulant that is used as a recreational drug in most cases. In a brief description of the drug, it is inhaled as or rather snorted. Some of the people using the drug prefer using it through injections into their veins. The injection is introduced as a solution where they later use a syringe to introduce the drug to the bloodstream through the veins. The drug is highly addictive and effective. It causes a loss of contact with the reality and this is what makes most of the people to use it. Research show that high dosage of the drug case high blood pressure and in some cases, the user can have a high body temperature. The reason why cocaine is highly addictive is due to its effect on the reward pathway in the human’s brain. Within a short period of using the drug causes dependency. Cocaine and cannabis are the highly used illegal drugs in not only America but global at large. Structure of Cocaine Cocaine’s chemical name is Benzoylmethylecgonine or Kokain.
