6.1: Evolutionary Process – Various Processes Disrupt the HW Equilibrium Natural selection is the only evolutionary process that causes adaptations, other processes may act on a population concurrently with natural selection: Mutation Genetic Drif Gene Flow Non-random Mating HW Principle – both allele and genotype frequencies remained unchanged in successive generations of a sexually reproducing population if certain criteria are met: Natural selection does not occur Mutation rate is very low Population is sufficiently large enough that genetic drif is negligible No net movement of Individuals Mating is random Mutation – heritable change in the structure of genes (micromutation) or chromosomes (macromutation) Mutations alter allele frequencies Usually natural selection eliminates most deleterious alleles from the gene pool which leaves behind alleles that enhance an organisms ability to survive and reproduce

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
