EVALUATING STRATEGIC TALENT MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES 2 OL 211: Milestone One: Evaluating Strategic Talent Management Initiatives The human resource function should always be aligned within an organization's strategic plan because human resources can help the organization determine whether a business strategy can be accomplished with the current level of employees' talents. Human resources can be instrumental in the planning process through staffing and recruiting, organizational development, training and development and performance management. Strategic Human Resources management is defined as “integrating human resource management strategies and systems to achieve the overall mission, strategies, and success of the firm while meeting the needs of employees and other stakeholders” (Schwind, Das, & Wagar, 1999). Current global conditions in Maersk’s industry impact human resource management practices in this organization by experiencing five talent challenges. The first was increased employee turnover. Although trainees had spent their entire careers at Maersk, they were now leaving for better outside opportunities. The second challenge was what to do with Maersk’s
